×Show profile Hide profileAnesu Chingono is an aspiring media worker who is combining his learning experiences as a journalism graduate with his current skills as a media management student. A Zimbabwean by birth, Anesu has a strong will to understand how the media functions holistically from an African perspective both practically and theoretically. Anesu holds a Bachelor of Journalism and Media Studies degree from Rhodes University, specialising in television production. He is currently on a Knights Scholarship, a scholarship awarded to non-South African students who are enthusiastic and dedicated about media management and leadership.
Anesu is hard working, industrious, multi-skilled and responsible, and it is these characteristics that have seen him assume various roles in the media world. In his specialist area of TV broadcast, Anesu has worked as a cameraman in Argentina for a sports cable news network as well as working for SABC's environmental show 50/50. He has also worked as an editor, producer and cameraman for CUE-TV and SCI-TV. During his final year as a television student, Anesu's crew production, "East or West: Home is best" about the lives of Somalian refugees in South Africa won the best documentary award at the annual Roxbury film festival. Yet his repertoires of skills expand beyond the realms of broadcast journalism. Anesu is currently the managing editor of the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership Newsletter "Illwizi Lolwazi" as well as being a news writer for Gaka Digital Ltd, an online marketing agency. He has previously worked as both the sports editor and deputy editor of the largest student publication at Rhodes University, the Oppidan Press.
Academically, his marks and achievements represent his desire to strive for the best. At undergraduate level he was awarded distinctions for both his major subjects, Journalism and English Language & Linguistics, which culminated in him being placed on the Dean's List for academic merit. He has been awarded Half Rhodes Academic Colours and is a member of the Golden Key Foundation. Socially, Anesu is currently a Rhodes Sub Warden, a job that entails looking after the needs of students at university. He is also a journalism tutor, a Rhodes first team soccer player, the Rhodes Soccer Chairperson and a former Rotary Youth Exchange student. He recently attended the Brightest Young Minds Summit in Johannesburg.
All these experiences have contributed to the well roundedness of Anesu and he hopes that these experiences can place him in good stead as he looks to make a name for himself in the corporate media world.
