Coal line reopen after derailment, says Transnet

Transport parastatal Transnet has reopened the coal line following a train derailment last week, which shut down the coal export line for around four days.

Sandile Simelane, spokesman for Transnet Freight Rail, a division of Transnet, told I-Net Bridge/BusinessLIVE that the railway line was reopened last night and test runs were conducted.

The state-owned enterprise provides a railway service linking coal mines to Richard Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT), the world's largest single coal-export terminal.

"As far as I heard the line was reopened last might. I haven't heard anything to the contrary," Simelane said.

The train derailed in Commondale in KwaZulu-Natal last Monday, 27 December 2010.
