Fishwicks - inspired by Lead SA - is Making a Difference

Finding great inspiration through the Lead SA Initiative, Fishwicks now wholeheartedly embraces the philosophy. With great power comes great responsibility, and nothing empowers our nation more than the bill of rights. That is why the Lead SA initiative recognises that with every right, there should be a responsibility too.

Ever since Fishwicks were inspired to shift focus from rights to responsibilities, they have found that making a difference, is simply a way of life.

Team building: Rhythm Workshop

Fishwicks decided that the first most logical step in making a difference as a company would be to ignite the passion for the initiative in its own people, so they themselves can stand up and Lead SA.

Jonny and Julie Blundell specialise in facilitating interactive workshops using various instruments including musical tubes and assorted percussion to provide a creative slant to training sessions of any nature, including teambuilding. They used these creative skills to show Fishwicks the value of working as a team. Using the tubes as individuals, what we created was anything but music. Then, using only six notes, they were able to orchestrate the team with a magical effect. The impact was massive. Fishwicks walked in as individuals and left as a team, ready to make a difference.

Making a difference

Armed with a new found belief in the impact that could be made as a team, Fishwicks put it to the staff to each choose a cause that was close to their heart, and then to work as a team to go make a difference. There are a number of projects that were activated internally, and more in the making, but two projects really stood out.

Project 1: SPCA

The SPCA was a popular choice, and the team set out to volunteer and help clean and fix the facility. The project was a success beyond limits.

Project 2: St Francis Daycare in Newclare

St Francis Daycare in Newclare is a school for disadvantaged kids. Education is their right, so people need to take responsibility to ensure them that right. If there's anything Fishwicks knows about, it's how to bring colour to people's lives, so that's just what they did. They painted the school, and the smiles on their faces were the greatest reward.

Our family's voice

To make sure that all members of the team were on the same page, Fishwicks put another task to them. They asked for submissions from each member of their own view of life at Fishwicks.

The results were unanimous: "It's like being part of a family." In fact, the feedback was so great, and the feeling of cohesion so inspiring, that the staff went ahead and worked together to make a theme song that could help them expresses their unity.

The outcome was fantastic, and the song will be uploaded on the website soon.

So, as a family, Fishwicks intend to move forward and take control of the future. Join them, as they stand up to help Lead SA.
