Jacaranda 94.2 and 1st for Women blow the whistle against women and child abuse

For the second year in a row, the Jacaranda 94.2 initiative in conjunction with 1st for Women Insurance Brokers aims to blow the whistle against women and child abuse.

If you own a pair of stilettos and even if you don't, there is no excuse not to get down to Montecasino on the 24th November and join in the Sisters with Blisters walk.

In South Africa it is a sad fact that society is very often characterised by high levels of violence and abuse, particularly against women and children. In 2006, 1st for Women and Jacaranda 94.2 embarked on an initiative called Sisters with Blisters. The cause was borne out of a need for South Africans to speak out against women and child abuse on a public platform, in the form of a walk. Last year over 600 participants took to the streets in their stilettos, to symbolise a little pain, walked for a lot of gain.

This year's event will again kick off the 16 days of Activism against Women and Child Abuse on the 24th November at Montecasino in Fourways. The walk is a mere 3km's in either stilettos or comfortable walking shoes, however, the message is strong and one the Gauteng public will ensure perpetrators inflicting abuse will hear. "It is up to every individual to speak out against violent crime," says Alan Khan, CEO of Jacaranda 94.2.

Aside from the seriousness the campaign brings, 1st for Women and Jacaranda 94.2 have secured extraordinary prizes for participants of the walk. The main prize up for grabs is a trip for two to Hollywood, Los Angeles to the value of $20 500. "Sisters with Blisters is not just an event for women, but the entire family is encouraged to walk in support of the cause," says Khan.

Registration for the 1st for Women Jacaranda 94.2 Sisters with Blisters is R 100 per person. Proceeds of the initiative will go towards the Leigh Matthews Trust, an institution geared to equip the Serious Offences and Violent Crime Unit of the South African Police Services and any other organisation involved in combating crime.

"1st for Women Insurance Brokers is proud to once again sponsor the Sisters with Blisters march. Together we can work towards a society that loves, values and treasures its women and children," commented Robyn Farrel, Director at 1st for Women Insurance Brokers.
