Petersburg Quartet tour to bring more than music to South Africans

Local couple Andre and Elzabé du Toit are hosting Russian acapella group Petersburg Quartet in a South African tour from 29 September to 21 October 2010.

After hearing the inspirational sound of the Quartet in St Petersburg Russia, they felt they had to share the uniqueness of the experience with other South Africans.

The du Toit's also saw an opportunity to share with the South African community in more than just a cultural way. The couple has long supported a number of charities, and so selected to use the tour to help some special causes, by donating a portion of ticket sales to them.

A percentage of sales from the gala concert at the Brooklyn Theatre in Pretoria on 29 September will go to the Oeboentoe Home in Pretoria. Oeboentoe is a safe haven for abused and neglected children under the age of 16, and has been run by Cawood and Erica Kelbrick since 1994. www.oeboentoe.co.za

In Cape Town, money will be raised from the tickets sold at the St George's Cathedral event on 1 October for local children's home, Heaven's Nest. Heaven's Nest is an emergency foster home for children between the ages of 6 months and 8 years old, that have been abused, abandoned, neglected or have contracted HIV or AIDS. www.heavensnest.org.za

The show at the Durban Country Club on 13 October will help raise funds for Reinhardt's Place, a home for mentally impaired people of all ages in Pumula on the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal. The founders, PW and Elize Botha (no relation to ex-president Botha), are themselves parents of an autistic child, the home's namesake, Reinhardt. http://groups.to/reinhardtsplace/

In White River Mpumalanga, the Quartet will be involved in the Casterbridge Music Development Programme (CMDP), run from the Barnyard Theatre where they will perform on 7 October. The CMDP is an NPO who believes that music has the ability to change lives and provide lessons and seminars to children of all backgrounds. The Quartet will share their knowledge and talent with these children. moc.liamg@irraug.cigam
