Large music festivals have been unable to take place due to pandemic restrictions. The announcement of the Liefde by die Dam 2022 festival concert dates was greeted with great excitement and tickets for both the Johannesburg and Cape Town editions sold out quickly.
The 2020 lockdown brought about a gigantic social catastrophe in South Africa, or so-called second pandemic; namely the rise in Gender Based Violence (GBV). The numbers were alarming with a women being murdered every three hours in and one in four women who will experience GBV. We felt an important urge to leverage the voices of men within our business to speak up and shine the light on GBV.
Part of our content strategy was to ensure mass reach on social media channels. We combined the messages from our men of influence with helpful content around how to report, self-defence, important numbers etc.
We had an overwhelmingly great response from the men we approached to be a part of the campaign and take a stance. I recall every person we approached was very keen to use their voice to raise awareness, drive action against GBV.

World-renowned street artists from all over the world came to Cape Town for the 2022 International Public Arts Festival (IPAF) which took place from 23-27 February. The profound topic of 'humanity' ran across the artworks, commenting on social connectedness and togetherness.
As part of World Water Day on Tuesday, 22 March, GrandWest employees cleaned the Elsies River Canal. Valhalla Secondary School and Bellville High School students also participated in the clean-up.
World Water Day is an initiative of the United Nations (UN). It was first observed in 1992 to highlight the value of water.
Spier Light Arts 2022, taking place at Spier from 18 March to 18 April, invited designers, architects, sound and video artists as well as institutions and students to submit expressions of interest for projects and video-based artwork that will engage visitors of all ages.
