Where have the ethics gone?

Some advertising agencies are seriously taking their clients for a ride... I have personally been involved in two agencies that have blatently stolen money from the client.

I am in Client Service and not only do I feel morally compromised (because I am the one who has to explain the CE) but I feel professionally compromised as well.

Is there not some kind of "Ethics Committee" whereby we can anonymously report these kinds of things to prompt some kind of investigation?

I suppose most of you would say "well leave the company", or "get out the business" but I think that would be missing the point.

Clients appoint us because they believe that we will always put the interests of their brand first, and I have always strived to do just that. My clients have always enjoyed me being very pedantic when it comes to spending their money. Obviously one always strives to increase client budget because then it becomes more profitable for the agency, however, when spending their money means banking 1/2 the budget for personal gain, I seriously have to sit back and think about the consequences.

These guys are giving our industry a bad name, not to mention killing the spirit and passion inspired by the industry. I have since resigned because I no longer feel comfortable working here, and am left feeling very disillusioned about the industry as a whole.

Perhaps I am being too sensitive, but should this whole fiasco be exposed (which in my experience it always does in the end), my client is not going to believe that "I was just doing my job".

Am I right to say that I don't want to work on certain business because of improper business ethics? - can I get fired for not wanting to do the job? Should I just sit back and "do my job"? - what exactly are my rights in a situation like this?

I would like to hear from other Client service people in a similar situation, or perhaps a human resources person can tell us "wannabe whistle blowers" what we can and cannot do?

(And let's pray that I don't land up regretting that I even posted this on biz comm!)
