Top 10 worst ads of all times

Since this forum is filled with complaints of poor adverts, why not draw up a list of the Top 10 (we'll probably be able to do a top 100) worst ads...

I am sure everyone will have a different opinion and what is seen as really bad in my books, might be brilliant in another’s…. I’m looking forward to see what us critics can come up with… Here are some of the ads I really, really, really dislike and a couple I actually enjoyed.

Some bad ads:
1. MTN Yellow Summer – the one with the guy in yellow walking around and detailing the options and services. Both the TV and radio ads for this campaign sucked.
2. Herbal Essence shampoo – the ‘organic experience’ campaign with three deriatives, i.e. the girl washing her hair in the plane (with the When Harry Met Sally scene playing out), the girl washing her hair in the bathroom and the old couple in the lounge and the latest attempt with the girl washing her hair and the fruit explosion (monkey saying ‘we’re eating the wrong food’ at the end). THESE SHOULD BE BANNED!!
3. Washing powder / stain remover ads in general – especially the latest offering from Skip (I think) where the couple are in the restaurant and the girl throws her glass of wine on the guy’s shirt, which he then promptly takes off to get washed next door…. What is it trying to say.
4. The SPAR ad where the guy sits with his baked beans on toast with a little garnishing – ‘it’s the small things that count’… What were they thinking??
5. The Ultra-mel custard ad where nobody pitches for the boy’s birthday party and he goes into a door in the wall to this custard party
6. Fanta’s “the fun will find you” ads… is it supposed to be fun to be kidnapped or being forced to watch three sumo wrestlers???
7. Once again Fanta – the ‘Extreme Make-over’ of the bottle…!!!
8. Generally speaking, all Christmas retail ads are bad, but one particularly poor one was CNA’s one with staff members singing the carols…

Some good ads:
1. All the Savannah ads with Barry Hilton as barman, but specifically the one where they portray all the barjokes… It’s been on for ages, but I still love it!
2. The Heineken ads – allways refreshing and new.
3. Standard Bank’s ‘Simpler, Better, Faster” campaign on TV – although the claim is false (no bank, and in particular not Std Bank is fast and easy – I enjoy the ads.
4. Most of the Nandos ads, but I must say its getting a bit long in the tooth lately.
5. The ‘Friendly Neighbour’ campaign by Sasol (I think) which features the woman in the bath and the guy coming to shop, while she is sitting there… Also the other one where the family is sitting down for breakfast, with the neighbour coming to do some shopping.
6. Polka’s S-E-R-I-O-U-S ad – its been on for quite some time, but I still like it (same goes for the ‘internet and all’ one!)
7. All the Lays ads that featured Francois Pienaar… witty, sharp
8. KFC’s Ice-Cream ads – the dad who drives over his daughter’s imaginary friend, and the other where father and son plays ball in the park and the boy falls in the water – Love it!
