October Car Magazine BMW issue
I couldn't help a wry smile at Car Magazine's radio ad for their BMW issue despite it being a bit off-kilter. The ad has a man buying the October issue jumping a queue to pay for it and getting flack for it from a guy behind him in the queue. It turns ugly with the guy buyng the magazine telling the queue hero to eff off. The ad ends there--with the tag line along the lines of 'October Car Magazine - the BMW issue.'
It's funny for the rest of us who DON'T drive BMWs -- but it's implied in the ad that anyone wanting the BMW issue is a idiot of note...(playing on [perceived] popular public opinion that all BMW drivers and wannabes are idiots)
I'm not sure this is the right track here.....?
Contrast this to the new Jetta ad that subtly denigrates BMW drivers but in the service of another brand...It's not targeted at BWM drivers but this ad is? or rather not? is this not a case of reverse psychology gone a little wrong....?
Thoughts?
