Verashni Pillay's resignation from
The Huffington Post SA with immediate effect. The news followed immediately on the release of the findings of the press ombudsman that a #fakenews blog published on
The HuffPost SA was both malicious and discriminatory.
We also congratulate the winners of the 2017 Liberty Radio Awards. Danette Breitenbach attended and provides feedback on the big
station wins of the night, as well as this year's individual
heroes of the theatre of the mind.
Keeping things celebratory, I chatted to King James Group's chief creative officer Alistair King about their appointment to
manage AB InBev's global brands in South Africa. Click through for King's description of the three-way pitch process, as well as the irony in this win as the King James Group was founded on a liquor brand and what this global win means for the independent local agency.
Jessica Tennant pins down this week's
#Newsmaker Mpange Chapeshamano on his Avatar comeback, as MD of Avatar Johannesburg, effective 1 February 2017. He shares more about his career in marketing that he describes as “the next best thing you can do with your clothes on”.
Rounding out the thought leadership, HDI Youth Marketeers' managing director Catherine Bothma, and youth expert Jason Levin say now's the time for self-regulation on the
ethics of youth marketing, especially with the Advertising Standards Authority facing possible liquidation.
Lots to think about, learn from and digest as we work our way towards the end of the first quarter of 2017.
