| | Digital voting debuts at Loeries The Loerie Awards this year set a world-first by becoming the first awards to use an innovative digital writing system during its voting process. The digital or 'magic' pens (as they were referred to by the judges) were used to collate all of the voting criteria during the intensive week-long judging process. The writing system - which was developed by local printing solution specialists Lithotech and looks to revolutionise a number of local industries, including health and insurance - was also making its South African data capturing debut.

Yet while graduates from local advertising schools are not far behind those from leading tertiary institutions globally, says Mick Blore, executive creative director of The Jupiter Drawing Room (Johannesburg), a change in training methodology will be necessary for South Africa to remain competitive.

More adventure, more often Monthly off-road adventure magazine SA4x4 by Caravan Publications is reporting an increase in circulation, which sees the title maintain its growth. Says publisher/editor Neil Harrison, "Driving off-road requires specific skills, as well as a level of environmental awareness, so we strive to give our readers features that cover both these aspects. The magazine's success can also be ascribed to the fact that we cater for the technically minded." The Bigger Picture launches film division Local stills photography supplier, The Bigger Picture Library, has recently added royalty-free and rights managed moving stock footage to its library. International film collections, such as TipsFilm, National Geographic, DigitalMotion, Red Hot Footage and OmniMovi, can now be searched or accessed from www.thebiggerpicture.co.za. "Close to 6000 moving clips for promotional use have so far been uploaded onto our website, and we hope to have many thousands more available by the end of the year" says Riaan Calitz, marketing manager at The Bigger Picture.

The 3D creative depicts a high-rise building, a suspended window cleaner's gantry and an 'overall-dressed' model cleaning the high-rise's windows. The slogan "When you're on the go" and Eno's pay-off line "Gets to work in 6 seconds" are prominent and emphasise the creative on the billboard.
