E-library boost in Egypt
In Egypt, efforts to widen access to scientific material have been boosted by the launch of a US$60,000 digital library. The library, launched in June, boasts locally-produced research, and provides the Egyptian community with discounted journals by leading US scientific societies.
The initiative, funded by US-based Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology, will also provide training for librarians and experts in the country. Magdi Tawfik Abdelhamid, a researcher at Cairo's National Research Centre said in an ever-increasing digital age, virtual libraries are the best choice for increasing the use of academic research while lowering costs.
