Training will be conducted ahead of the 2011 SADC Multi-Stakeholder Water Dialogue scheduled from 26-29 June 2011 in Mbabane, Swaziland, under the theme Demystifying Climate Finance. The dialogue serves as a platform for regional stakeholders from water-using sectors to share experiences on different aspects of Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM).

Participants will learn about the special role of IWRM towards socio-economic development and poverty reduction in Southern Africa. The programme includes a field trip with a local River Basin Organisation in Swaziland, and offers journalists an opportunity to conduct in-depth interviews with SADC Water representatives at the dialogue.

To apply for the scholarship, send a covering letter with motivation and CV by Thursday, 9 June 2011, to Tafadzwa Rafemoyo (IPS Africa) at gro.spi@oyomefart.

This capacity building initiative is commissioned by the secretariat of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) with financial support from German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) in delegated cooperation with the UK Department for International Development(DFID) and the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID). The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) is implementing the partnership programme.

The event is part of the IPS Southern Africa Water Wire project, which provides in-depth coverage of water-related issues in Southern Africa, linking water to economic development, social well-being and environmental protection.
