    Bechtel appoints Alcatel-Lucent in Angola

    PARIS: Alcatel-Lucent announced on Tuesday, 10 November 2009, that it has secured a US$12 million contract with Bechtel, a global company for engineering, construction, and project management, for the deployment of an integrated telecommunications infrastructure to support onshore and offshore operations of Angola LNG's new plant in Angola.

    Under the terms of the contract, Alcatel-Lucent is responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of a turnkey communications solution, along with network integration support to ensure the rapid rollout of Angola LNG process plant telecommunications system.

    The Angola LNG project is an integrated gas utilisation project encompassing offshore and onshore operations to monetise gas resources from blocks located offshore of Angola, with operations scheduled for usage in early 2012. Bechtel has been earlier selected for the construction of this new facility that is adjacent to the city of Soyo, the largest oil-producing region in the country, located on the Atlantic coast of Angola.

    Alcatel-Lucent will also provide services including designing, installation, commissioning, supervising, integration and testing services as well as the overall network planning and design. The new end-to-end communications and security solution will include the following: integrating fibre optics cable network and structured cabling providing physical connectivity for the entire plant, satellite communications, Local Area Network (LAN) that supports data and Voice over IP (VoIP) telephony systems, UHF analog radio system and VHF marine radio enhancing workforce mobility and productivity.
