Zain discusses 3G system with MACRA

Zain Malawi managing director Fayaz King said his company has intensified demand for the facility since they first applied for it in 2006 when they were operating as Celtel.
He said once they introduce the 3G system which is widely used in developed countries, they will be able to offer fast downloading speeds of between two and eight megabytes per second .
“This will also allow subscribers to watch television, connect to the internet and make video calls,” he said.
While Zain is becoming increasingly concerned that MACRA is dragging its feet, the regulatory body said it has made appropriate communication to the mobile phone operator, which they could not divulge to the media.
“Zain is aware of the pending circumstances with regard to their application,” said MACRA's regulatory officer, Lloyd Mumba.
