Amazon hires former White House spokesman Carney
A company official told AFP that Carney, 49, has been hired as a senior vice president to head Amazon's newly-created Global Corporate Affairs department, which will include the company's existing public relations and public policy teams.
Carney took the job as President Barack Obama's chief spokesman in February 2011, the second person to hold the position in the administration after Robert Gibbs. Carney left the job last June.
Prior to joining the Obama White House, Carney was a longtime journalist for Time Magazine.
On demand taxi service Uber last year hired another key player from Obama's administration, presidential adviser David Plouffe, to help chart its lobbying efforts and political strategy.
