The successful applicants will receive hands-on training in areas such as lighting design, cinematography, production management, editing, sound, research and elements of business management. Some of the top specialists in the South African film industry will mentor the group.

A transformation initiative

According to Itumeleng Letebele, corporate social investment manager for MultiChoice, "The DStv Skills Development Programme is a transformation initiative to develop and train filmmakers from previously disadvantaged backgrounds. It is looking for participants who believe they have what it takes to make a difference in the industry and who are determined to make their dreams of being a filmmaker come true."

The selected participants also have the opportunity to develop work for channels on the DStv platform. "This facet of the programme provides the participants with exposure to producing work for clients. This real experience better prepares them for a successful career within the film industry," concludes Letebele.

An independent panel of selectors will review all the applications and select the 20 candidates to enter the programme.

To enter, go to www.multichoice.co.za or contact Connie Mosegedi at Big Fish on tel +27 (0)114825599 or email az.gro.hsifgib@cidegesom.
