Youth programme holds photo exhibition

The Studio_Bernard Viljoen Foundation, based in Johannesburg, has been teaching young men from a children's home in Khayelitsha, photography skills since the beginning of 2011. The students will now have an exhibition and sale on 8 September 2011 at the Grand Café in Granger Bay, Cape Town.

The studio is in partnership with Cape Town based non-profit organisation, Mamelani Projects, which offers life skills programmes, personal development processes, one-on-one mentoring, skills training, job placement, education and accommodation support for young people transitioning out of care.

The photography training runs weekly, teaching them the skills required to take interesting photographs of the city's well known landmarks. The youth have reported feeling more connected to their hometown as a result of this process.

Studio_Bernard Viljoen Foundation, established in January 2010, provides skills development projects, with photography as the medium, to children who used to live on the streets of urban centres.

The exhibition will be open for the month of September.
