    Another Golden Horn Award!

Awards second year in a row! AFDA students have done it again! The Best Student Film Award went to Sindiswa at the recently held 2007 South African Film and Television Awards held at Gallagher Estate.

AFDA is one of the leading outcomes-based degree institutions of its kind in the world and is listed by the Council of Higher Education as one of the top six private tertiary institutions in South Africa. Over the past 10 years AFDA has become a South African Institution of international reputation and excellence.

Sindiswa, a third-year graduate film was up against two strong AFDA contenders, Ongeriewe, last year's Cannes Award nominee for the best short film, and Leila were nominated in the Best Student Film award category.

AFDA Honours student and producer of Sindiswa, Thobile Mkhwanazi, who produced this SAFTA Award-winning film, says: "This is the biggest award we have ever received; it's an achievement that myself and the crew are proud of. It was scary at first as we were up against good competitors. I'm extremely excited!"

Sindiswa is a story set in rural KwaZulu-Natal and documents the clash of modern and traditional cultures, where a young mother has to stand up against her sangoma mother in order to save her sons' life.

Gugu Dlamini, the lead actress, says: "It was really exciting to be recognised by everyone in the industry. Sindiswa is an imperative story to tell and I hope that the story will resonate with one and all."

Garth Holmes, AFDA Managing Director, said, "Well done, gang, you make us proud!"

AFDA will be hosting its Annual Film Festival and Awards which will be hosted in Johannesburg from the 23rd of November until the 24th of November 2007 and on the 30th of December and 1st December 2007 in Cape Town. The festival is an opportunity for parents, prospective students, current students, the industry and the general public to view the end of year graduation productions of the third and fourth years.
