Festival supports African film industry

In celebration of Africa Month this May, SABC Africa and Nu Metro Cinemas are hosting the first annual African Film Festival at Balfour Park and Montecasino Nu Metro cinemas. Six films will be screened from 25 May to 1 June 2006.

The festival coincides with the Africa premiere of Nigerian film 'The Amazing Grace', which will be screened at Nu Metro Montecasino. SABC Africa has already scheduled to screen 'Scent of an Oak' on Africa Day, 25 May.

According to Gugu Sibeko and Lara Preston, the respective marketing managers of SABC Africa and Johnnic Communications Africa, both organisations are eager to demonstrate their support for the African film industry and this event - a first for them both - will be the first of an annual and ever-growing festival. Up-and-coming African directors from South Africa and further afield will attend the festival, including Nigeria's Jeta Amata along with the UK star of 'The Amazing Grace', Nick Moran, and Kenya's Michael Wanguhu,
