Meetings Africa date change

The Thebe Exhibitions and Events Group has announced that Meetings Africa 2006 will take place from 27 to 28 February instead of 28 February to 1 March as originally planned because the 2006 local elections will take place on 1 March which, in all likelihood, will be declared a public holiday.

Group managing director Carol Weaving said staging the show on election day would undoubtedly have an adverse effect on business. "We have to create the ideal business environment for both exhibitors and delegates so that Meetings Africa can make a real difference in their business in the future," she said.

Meetings Africa is a one-stop shop for meeting planners, event organisers and incentive travel professionals and will be preceded by South Africa's first business tourism conference on 26 February 2006.

International hosted buyers will be sponsored by the Department of Trade and Industry at Meetings Africa, which will be presented in conjunction with the Gauteng Tourism Authority and the Johannesburg Tourism Company.
