Lighting up sustainable exhibition stands

To encourage sustainability in its business, 3D Group is extending its reusable policy in exhibition stands. Its current modular system, Octanorm, used for stand construction, is by design a reusable, modular aluminium system and the company reuses polystyrene panels which make up a large part of exhibition stands.

However, as an additional step, the group will now extend its reusable policy to other materials including wood, flooring, plastics and decorative materials as well as lighting, one of the areas where a huge impact can be made.

"We intend replacing all lighting we use in our offices and warehouses, as well as on the stands we design and build, with LED lighting. While relatively expensive and requiring current and heat management that is more precise than traditional light sources, they present many advantages including lower energy consumption, longer lifetime, improved robustness, smaller size and faster switching," explains sales director, Conrad Kullmann

"Also, their diversity and flexibility means that they will provide us with many varied and interesting lighting options on the stands we design. For example, the compact size allows new text and video displays and sensors to be developed; they are better at placing light in a single direction than incandescent or fluorescent bulbs; and, because of their directional output, they have unique design features that can be exploited by clever designs.

"LED lights are also more rugged and damage-resistant than compact fluorescents and incandescent bulbs, and they don't flicker. We're certain we have made the correct decision for our customers, for our economy and for our planet," he concludes.
