Airport lifestyle newspaper launches

Hot Air will be a free airport newspaper targeting a niche readership of air travellers focusing exclusively on business, travel and lifestyle in today's marketplace. Launching on 3 May 2010, the publication will target the broad domestic air traveller readership (LSM 6-10) through the Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban airports.

Distribution will be done via all major airport terminals in South Africa in consultation with ACSA, Exclusive Books, CNA stores, shoeshine stands, attractive distribution stands and airport lounges.

A 16-page tabloid-size newspaper, it will have visuals and reporting standards similar to a lifestyle magazine. The electronic version will be a duplicate of the print edition, with additional promotional and interactive elements such as blogs, social networking and competitions. It will reportedly have a circulation of 50 000 copies nationwide on a bi-weekly basis.

In the first month, promotional merchandise giveaways will raise awareness, distribution stands will have an edgy design to appeal to passengers, unique marketing executions will be activated in the airport terminals and guerrilla marketing tactics will be employed throughout year one.

The electronic version's marketing will be integrated into the newspaper marketing executions. TV talk shows, breakfast radio shows, business newspaper articles and celebrity endorsements will form part of its marketing campaign.
