New look Sunday Times this weekend

This weekend, national newspaper the Sunday Times will reveal its ‘bigger, brighter, bolder' new look. The intention is to give its reported 3.9 million readers more value for their money by introducing new elements and character to its design.

“We wanted to make the whole experience and interaction with our readers a more comfortable one - easier and simpler to navigate through. The enhanced layout makes the paper more accessible and visually stimulating for its readers through a greater variety of news written in sharper and more digestible bites,” says Susan Russell, Avusa Media's GM: marketing

The new look will allow for more space for additional opinions, stories, columnists and visuals. New columns include ‘speakers corner', allowing guest columnists to express their views; ‘parents page', assisting parents with education concerns; and a ‘week in review' page, summarising local and international news in a snappy, visually appealing and entertaining read.

To add to the anticipation around the 2010 FIA World Cup and the FIFA Confederations Cup,- the Sunday Times has made an effort to craft a brighter and bolder sports section. The expanded sports section offers more of everything, particularly soccer, rugby and cricket.

“It promises to be a section that has something for every sport crazy fan, ranging from in-depth previews, long features with top personalities, as well as an array of news snippets and great photographs,” says Russell.

Readers can look forward to continued improvement and tweaking of the paper, new advanced weather maps, more humour, and more voices to be heard.

The paper is printed around the country in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth. All regions can look forward to receiving a freshened-up version of their much-loved Sunday paper this weekend on 1 February 2009.
