Call for applications: NASA President’s Bursary in Media Management

In support of developing skills within the print media industry, the Newspaper Association of South Africa (NASA) has established an annual NASA President's Bursary for a Post Graduate Diploma in Media Management (PDMM) at Rhodes University in Grahamstown.

The Post Graduate Diploma in Media Management, presented by the Sol Plaatje's Media Leadership Institute at Rhodes, will equip a student to succeed in all areas of managing the business operations of a print media enterprise. The full-time one-year course will develop the student's skills in: leadership; media economics and financial planning; markets and audiences; human resources management; programming; advertising; circulation and distribution; and media law and policy. The course will commence in mid February and will end in November 2004. For more information on the course visit the Sol Plaatje's website at http://journ.ru.ac.za/plaatje.html.

The Bursary will cover the student's tuition and residence fees to the value of R35 000,00. The successful applicant will, however, be responsible for any other costs associated with the course.

Applicants who are interested in applying for the bursary should ideally conform to the following criteria:

(1) an undergraduate degree. This is, however, not necessary in journalism or media studies, but will be an advantage;

or

(2) a diploma from a recognised technical college;

(3) at least three year's experience within the print media industry;

(4) the course caters primarily for people who do not have much or any management experience but aspire to become managers in the near future.

If you fit the criteria, please submit your CV along with a motivation letter indicating why you deserve the bursary, by October 24, 2003 to:
