Online initiative partners with newspaper

The Citizen newspaper and Joburg.co.za, an online initiative providing up-to-date information on places to go, people to see and things to do in the Gauteng region, earlier this week announced a joint venture comprising a complete listing of Joburg.co.za events in the CitiVibe section of the newspaper every Thursday morning.

Says Shelli Nurcombe-Thorne, sales and marketing director of Joburg.co.za: “Joburg.co.za is dedicated to providing detailed information of events and happenings in Johannesburg and its surrounding areas. Our newsletter subscriber base of 187 000 people have become completely reliant on the information we push to them on a weekly basis. The Citizen's print readership has responded favourably to the new weekly-pullout guide they receive, and as such, we are looking into expanding and building upon this exciting new partnership.”

According to The Citizen's publisher, Greg Stewart, the joint venture between The Citizen and Joburg.co.za means that all events effectively target an audience of over 700 000 people. In addition, the majority of Joburg.co.za subscribers are female and over 60% of Citizen readers are male, which results in a “powerful” marketing platform for potential advertisers.

Joburg.co.za's offering includes the Joburg.co.za newsletter that is emailed to subscribers each Wednesday morning. The newsletter provides up-to-date details on everything from movies, expos and sporting events to brand new restaurants, 4x4 trails and romantic picnic spots.
