Protea Hotels announces GM of the Year

Protea hotel group's General Manager of the Year: Rudi Janse van Rensburg from Protea Hotel Asokoro in Nigeria.

Following a career with Protea in South Africa, van Rensburg decided to try his hand at Nigeria where he was appointed as deputy GM at the Protea Hotel Obudu Ranch Resort in May 2003. He then served in various capacities at many of its Nigerian properties including opening the Apo Apartments as GM in 2004, being GM at Victoria Island and GM at the Nike Lake Resort. He opened Hotel Asokoro in May 2007.

“The difference between Rudi and most other individuals is that he has mastered the art of being perpetually positive, even under the most immense challenges with which he has to contend in the Nigerian environment,” said Arthur Gillis, CEO, Protea Hotel Group, “Under his able stewardship, he has maintained the high international standards for which the hotels are known. This is clearly reflected by the quality of his operation, his relationship with both his guests and staff, and the results which he consistently produces.”

The awards ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of Africa's largest hotel group that has survived five recessions. It is still number one in the eyes of its consumers, largely thanks to the commitment of GMs such as van Rensburg and its 70-strong sales team, which is one of the largest hospitality sales forces on the continent.
