Six things to know about the iOS 9 update
Here are six new characteristics to look out for when the update takes place later this year.
1. Longer battery life: Battery improvements could give us all an extra hour of digital life, plus with a new power-saving mode, the battery may last up to an extended three hours.
2. Improved caller-ID: Apple wants everyone to know who's calling them, even if the caller isn't in your contact list, the software will try and "guess" who it is based on information from emails. You can ask Siri to do this. Calendar and reminder updates are also getting a 'once-over' with a better system to help you never miss another meeting.
3. Siri is becoming smarter: The digital 'helper' is getting a massive update with iOS 9, where it will be more context-aware and help make suggestions before you even ask. It will also be able to source information in your phone if you want to find anything quicker and more proactively, and remind you of events (if you ask it to).
4. Split-screen on iPad: Apple's tablet is getting some well-enhanced updates with the split-screen offer, which will allow you to work two apps at the same time. Multitasking is apparently a big focus for Apple and its iPad with this new operating system.
5. Six-digit passcode: Hopefully making your phone more secure, Apple is also introducing a new six-digit passcode with the iOS 9.
6. News app: With the new update comes a new app, this time it's about the latest news with a Flipboard like app which updates every time you open it.
