Fairlady Consumer Awards support South African producers

The April issue of Fairlady features the recent winners of the Fairlady Consumer Awards, which included a host of South African brands. With a 191 entries in nine categories, the Fairlady Test House judges faced a tough task of trying, tasting and selecting the finalists and winners in each category.

Judges awarded Willow Creek's Extra Virgin Olive Oil Best Store Cupboard Must-Have; Boshendal's Le Grand Pavillon Brut Rose was awarded the Alcoholic Product award; Soylite Moisturising Candles took top honours in the Health & Wellness category and Healing Earth Marula and Rose Face Serum scored top marks as the Best South African Product overall.

Readers selected winners with Freshpak Rooibos Tea taking top honours in the Health & Wellness category, Checker's Cafe Culture Biltong & Blue Cheese Quiche nominated Best South African Product and PureJoy Berry Nice voted Favourite New Product.

According to Fairlady editor, Suzy Brokensha, the Fairlady Test House is an institution. "It has earned a reputation for providing honest, fair and valuable product comparisons, as well as shopping advice over the past 22 years. The record-breaking number of entries we received last year is a testament to that and consumers' desires to make their voices not only heard, but count," says Brokensha.

Brokensha acknowledges that now, more than ever, consumers play a powerful role in determining which products take centre stage on shelf and with this in mind, Fairlady also invited readers to vote for their favourite products.

    2011 nominations

Fairlady is now calling for nominations for its 2011 consumer awards, which close for entries on 20 June 2011. It has increased and refined the number of categories to 14, including a sub-category of Favourite New Product (on-shelf for no longer than six months prior to entry closing date). The winners will be announced in the November 2011 issue of the magazine.
