Renewables & Energy Efficiency News South Africa

Kruger goes green

Two of Kruger National Park's largest camps are now powered by the sun, thanks to grid-tied solar PV systems that will produce a total of 1,367KW of energy.

These systems will provide electricity to the park's Skukuza (823KW) and Lower Sabie (542KW) rest camps, and reduce the parks grid load by 30-50%. Put together, this is enough energy to power up to 170 houses or a small shopping complex.

Construction of the Lower Sabie farm began in July and was completed in August this year, while construction of the Skukuza farm is still underway.

Social development aspect

Resolution Circle was commissioned as the projects' technical design consulting firm because it offers a solar PV installation course, and work integrated learning (WIL) programmes. The company’s junior technicians and eight of its P2 work integrated learning interns with the opportunity to be part of the project.
