Law enforcement services spokesman Neil Arendse said on Wednesday 7 October 2009 that there had been a proliferation of trailers for which the owners had not obtained permits.
"We recently confiscated 10 trailers which did not display advertising permits. The owners have had to pay fines of up to R3000 plus added costs based on the size of signage in order to recover their impounded vehicles," he said.
His department had acquired a special truck to make it possible to confiscate the trailers. Arendse said another concern was the extent to which the city's pavements were being cluttered with furniture for sale outside businesses.
They risked having the furniture confiscated if they did not have permits.
