New uses for old billboards
Self-employed women of Tswelopele, an upliftment project initiated by Primedia Outdoor, Omnigraphics, ABSA Bank, and the Metropolitan Evangelical Services, are making distinctly unique kitbags using recycled billboard flexface donated by Primedia Outdoor.
Each kitbag is different and takes on the colours and 'textures' of the flexface being used. The very nature of the material makes it weatherproof and durable.
Tswelopele, a Setswana word meaning progress, is a project aimed at alleviating the high levels of unemployment and poverty among women living in various communities.
The sale of Tswelopele items is a positive force helping unemployed previously disadvantaged women to break through the many constraints of poverty and to progress in their lives, becoming self-sufficient and being able to care for their families.
Apart from the social upliftment aspect, the project also addresses the serious need for environmental conservation through the recycling of old billboard material.
