Financial street smarts for commuters

ComutaNet recently rolled out an integrated commuter campaign on behalf of the Financial Services Board (FSB) and the South African Insurance Association (SAIA) across South Africa. Largely educational, the aim is to help commuters make the most of their hard-earned money.
Financial street smarts for commuters

To connect with as many commuters as possible, carefully chosen ComutaNet media platforms have been promoting the understanding of financial principals amongst the 17 million strong commuter market since October 2006. Most commuters are gainfully employed, income generating transport users in need of financial knowledge.

"The communication is geared to build on last year's successful campaign," explains Derick Mzoneli, ComutaNet's national sales manager.

Protect consumer interests

"These clients are unique as they do not sell banking or insurance products, but as the watchdog of financial matters they protect the interest of the consumer and elevate the standards of the sector as a whole."

The clients selected several media platforms to deliver the intrinsic message - Interactive Kiosk promotions, Rank TV, Star Music, Commuter FM, Star Radio and Interactive Trailer Promotions.

Crucial moment

"December sees commuters receiving annual bonuses and peak spending," says Mzoneli. "Therefore, this ongoing project launches at a crucial moment in their lives - sound financial management and understanding of one's rights is absolutely critical."

ComutaNet engages with commuters across all touch points in order to ensure effectiveness. "There is a visual element (Rank TV and Trailer Billboards), an audio component (Star Radio, Commuter FM and Star Music tapes) and a strong interactive feature," he points out.

"Through interactive promotions, trained and knowledgeable ComutaNet Promoters answer questions and provide valuable feedback on the products and services, furthermore commuters are directed to subject matter experts for further assistance, shall there be a need."

Powerful, connective

"In an environment where our communication messages and advertising are well respected and received," Mzoneli concludes. "ComutaNet provides clients with a powerful, connective communication package that traditional TV or print cannot."

The multi-touch point campaign will run until November 2007.
