SABC to embark on nationwide roadshow for unsolicited TV proposals

The SABC will be embarking on a first ever nationwide pitching session for unsolicited proposals from the local television production industry and the public-at-large from the 24-26 April 2006.

This unique invitation by the SABC follows on commitments made to the industry at Sithengi '05, and is also a result of the commissioning procedures approved by the SABC Board, in its quest to unlock, activate and stimulate the local television, radio and film production industry in fulfilment of its PBS mandate.

To hear proposals, first stop is Gauteng, on 24-26 April 2006. The SABC will thereafter travel to each of the remaining provinces for one-day sessions, where proposals submitted will be pitched to a panel consisting of Head of Genres and Commissioning Editors from the Content Hub, a division of Content Enterprise.

CE of Content Enterprises, Mvuzo Mbebe, says, "This opportunity will allow for unsolicited proposals to be pitched to a panel without the long wait that is associated by following commissioning procedures. This initial process will only allow for television productions in the areas of entertainment, education and sport, with other genres following in later outreaches."

Independent producers who respond to the opportunity to submit proposals and pitch will not have to wait long for feedback, the SABC reassures. "The Panel will be able to decide on the proposal idea immediately and letters of interest and letters of rejection will be given on the same day," explains Mbebe.

Proposals for film and radio programmes will be taking place at the next pitching session, which will be held at a later stage in the year.

Interested parties need to register and secure a slot with the Content Hub by 15 April 2006 on or Tel: +27 11 714-5730 or Fax: +27 11 714-5992.
More information on the pitching process and regional pitching dates can be obtained from the SABC website: www.sabc.co.za or call centre: +27 11 714-9111.
