SABC signs agreement with SuperSport

The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has announced that it has reached an agreement with SuperSport on sub-licencing the screening rights of Premier Soccer League (PSL) games.

This comes soon after the announcement of the signing of the deal between the SABC and the PSL which gives the SABC broadcasting rights for the next five years.

"The SABC will be sub-licencing a significant number of games to SuperSport," says SABC Sport Managing Director, Mr Mvuzo Mbebe. "This is to continue fulfilling our mandate to make sport as accessible as possible to as wide an audience as possible. The agreement will enable viewers on the continent to watch their favourite soccer teams in action."

SuperSport CEO Heinrich Enslin says that fixtures will be played on Wednesday evenings and that soccer fans in over 50 countries in Africa and its adjacent islands will be able to follow the action.

"The increased coverage of PSL fixtures is in the interest of the game in Africa in general and South Africa in particular, as well as the League's sponsors and advertisers who will now get double the TV exposure they had for weekday matches last season," says Enslin.

"By televising a league match virtually every Wednesday night during the season, we hope to boost the enthusiasm, excitement and support generated by the clubs and their players."
