SuperSport's live European soccer coverage the most extensive in the world
SuperSport will broadcast more UEFA games than any other broadcaster this season, while the many DStv channels which broadcast sport 24-hours a day, make SuperSport's coverage of all soccer exceptionally high. In South Africa, soccer ranks first in terms of adult spectator interest amongst DStv and M-Net subscribers, followed by cricket in second place and then rugby. In an analysis of all the DStv sports channels put together, SuperSport achieved 58% of total TV time for soccer and M-Net, 19%. The research also indicates that black households with DStv prefer to watch local football and SuperSport broadcasts 25 of the local PSL matches live and exclusive. They also have the rights to 45 matches on Wednesday nights. (Source: Sporttrack Report 2002).
This week sees the commencement of Oracle Airtime Sales' Go for Goal soccer campaign, to highlight SuperSport's leading football coverage. It incorporates the launch of a number of cost-effective airtime packages and online industry competition.
An example of the kind of value-for-money packages now available? The UEFA package, whereby a total of 32 spots can be bought across SuperSport and ESPN during every UEFA Champions League game for R90 000.
At the same time, the online competition to celebrate the SuperSport coverage of soccer is driven by the Oracle Airtime Sales website: www.oats.co.za. Entrants must play a computer soccer game and score a number of goals in an allotted time in order to qualify for one of four Breitling sports watches. The competition closes at the end of November 2003 and winners are announced at a celebratory event on 4 December 2003.
