Anthony Duke moves to SABC Training
Duke, who had been head of 5fm since December 1995, has had a long and notable career in radio, starting with the setting up of Capital Radio in 1979. "I think Anthony brings a wealth of experience to share with other colleagues in the whole of SABC Radio and is a welcome addition to the Training Department," said Ron Morobe: General Manager of SABC Training.
Says Duke: "I've had a good run at being involved in the amazing world of radio - particularly programming. I will miss 5 dearly but believe it is in capable hands for its challenges as a national Commercial station. The station was unique in its role within the Public Broadcaster and yet always a trend setter that looked at tomorrow not yesterday".
Randall Abrahams, Head of Commercial Radio and Anthony's previous boss added: "Anthony Duke's incredible resource through his vast experience in radio programming and management will now be utilized throughout the SABC as he joins the training department. Anthony guided 5fm during the new licensing period in South Africa as the station faced challenges from the newly independent sector and acted as a mentor to new station manager, John Langford."
Morobe commented that Anthony joins at a time where skills development is of paramount importance to the SABC.
In closing Duke confided: "I know it sounds corny but radio has given me a hellava lot and I'd like to give back. The long term objective is to establish a prestigious Radio Programming Academy at the SABC that will not only be of service to the SABC, South Africa, but also the whole continent."
