Shooting for the stars

Set in the competitive world of South African soccer, e.tv's new local soccer drama Shooting Stars takes a closer look at the challenges that not only the players face but the coaches, managers and everyone involved in the game. It airs next week Monday, 3 September 2007 at 9pm.

Comments Deva Britow, e.tv's executive producer, “With the lead up to 2010, e.tv felt that the time was right to provide our viewers with dramatic entertainment that focuses on one of our favourite sports. We're positive that Shooting Stars will deliver to our audience the calibre of programming they've come to expect from e.tv.”

Produced by Penguin Films, Roberta Durrant, producer/creative director of the show says, “The most exciting aspect of Shooting Stars was working with new, young and energetic talent, both in front and behind the camera. The challenge was to find soccer players who could act, or actors who could play soccer. Mostly we cast actors who could play soccer who then had to embark on a vigorous four-month training programme before we started shooting.”

Arch enemies Bra Vic (Timmy Kwebulana) owner of Shooting Stars and Neo Moloto (Vatiswa Ndara) owner of the Black Dragons, will come up against each other on and off the field. Once former lovers, the two cannot stand each other. Bra Vic blames her for the injury that brought his sterling career to an abrupt halt and Neo, once deeply in love with him, is seeking revenge because he left her for another woman.
