Over 50,000 condoms donated at SA's biggest festivals
Aids is still one of the leading causes of death in South Africa. According to official estimates, more than seven million people are infected with HIV with infection rates increasing. This is compounded by rising rates of other sexually transmitted diseases (including HIV) and unplanned pregnancies amongst the youth.
YAA’s CEO, Daniel Nagel says, “One of our founding principles is to step change awareness and launch relevant platforms where the youth can openly engage and learn in a safe environment free from judgement. Peer-to-peer education without the fear of stigma highly resonates with the youth and led to our claim – Do What You Want; Do It With Love, Respect And Condoms.”
The donation was also funded by LifeStyles® Southern Africa distributor, ACDOCO SA, who announced earlier this year that they will be donating R1 (one South African rand) for the next two years for every pack sold in Southern Africa to Youth Against AIDS (YAA). Jason Frichol, ACDOCO SA’s Managing Director says, “We believe that YAA’s peer-to-peer platform and direct engagement approach is one of the most effective ways to curb transmission rates and unplanned pregnancies. All South Africans can now support these crucial initiatives as LifeStyles® Condoms are available at all leading retailers nationwide”.
