"Ahead of Mandela Day on 18 July, cardboard collection bins will be placed around the Cape Quarter into which anyone can drop a book or books," said HWB Communications CEO Evelyn John Holtzhausen. "The books can be new or used - these donations will go a long way to continue to build a community of readers and encourage a culture of reading at Prestwich Primary."
Collections officially close at 5pm on Wednesday, 16 July. The books will be sorted and packaged to be ready for handover at a ceremony that will be held at the school on Wednesday, 23 July.
Cape Quarter Centre Manager, Andrea Erwee encourages everyone to get involved. "You don't need a reason to help people. Mandela Day is a friendly reminder that with only 67 minutes, you can make a big change ... There are two gifts you should give children: one is roots; the other is wings. Cape Quarter supports any endeavour where children are given an opportunity to be educated."
The Bay Bookshop in the Cape Quarter is offering a 20% discount on any books purchased for the donation box in that store.
