I'm still here - The Irene Fischer story on OFM

Just over a year ago, Irene Fischer or Margarine as she is fondly known in central South Africa, was the young and popular traffic presenter on the Mambo Jumbo show on OFM. One morning on her way to work a truck skipped a red light and literally drove over Irene's car - crushing her inside. It was thought that Irene will not survive the horrific accident and if she did she will be quadriplegic with severe brain damage.
Irene Fischer was the young and popular traffic presenter on the Mambo Jumbo show on OFM until a horrific accident in 2009 changed her life forever. She told her story of recovery to Rian van Heerden in a special three hour show on Thursday, 18 November on OFM.

One year later and Irene's recovery is still a miracle in the making. She amazed doctors and surgeons with her determination and fighting spirit. Despite Irene's miraculous recovery, she still needs extensive rehabilitation. It is for this reason and for the legacy of Irene that OFM decided to dedicate an exclusive three hour show called The Irene Fischer story - I am still here on Thursday, 18 November between 09:00 and 12:00

Rian van Heerden, a long time friend and colleague of Irene hosted the show and conducted interviews with the first people on the scene, the paramedics, the doctors and her family. In the emotional feature Irene told her story - waking up in ICU, not being able to move or talk, her day to day struggles - physically and emotionally, how she keeps her spirit positive and how her life has changed in a few seconds. Not only did she tell her story, but also chose the music that was played in the show. What makes Irene's story even more amazing is that she now writes blogs for the Yellow Door on OFM.

OFM invited listeners who would like to make a contribution to Irene's rehabilitation to send an SMS to the station or by pledging their help online at www.ofm.co.za.
