5FM will be giving away a range of prizes for listeners daily, including the 5FM birthday compilation album and 5FM merchandise hampers. Live birthday broadcasts of various daytime shows will also take place at Cubana's across South Africa during this month (go to www.5fm.co.za for dates).
On the station's birthday, 5FM listeners will be given the chance to call in and win a VIP Miller Rock the Boat cabin, products from Apple and a party for one listener and 20 friends. 5FM mornings with Gareth Cliff and the Grant and Anele Show will be broadcasting live from News Cafes in Johannesburg and Durban respectively.
One of 5FM's most notable achievements of the past few years has seen the station bucking the general SA trend which sees a decline in radio listenership figures. The most recent RAMS figures show that 5FM has grown by more than 400 000 listeners in two and a half years, stabilising at just over two million listeners.
2010 has also been an exceptional year for 5FM and its DJs, with awards and recognition for outstanding quality and content in radio. It was voted "Coolest radio station" for the fifth year in a row in the Sunday Times' Generation Next awards 2010. 5FM Mornings with Gareth Cliff won the Gold Award for The Best Breakfast Show; DJ Fresh the Best Day time Music presenter at the 2010 Inaugural MTN Radio Awards and Cliff also won Best Radio Personality in the annual Leisure Options Best of Joburg Readers' choice awards competition.
On the digital side, www.5fm.co.za has between 150 and 200 000 unique users per month; the 5FM Twitter profile (@5fm) has over 22 387 followers (35 5FM staff members actively tweet) and 5FM's Facebook page currently has 63 120 fans.
