702 trees for Soweto

Talk Radio 702 is to plant 702 trees in Soweto over the next year. Station manager, Yusuf Abramjee, made the announcement in Soweto on Monday as part of the township's 100th anniversary.

The initiative is being undertaken in conjunction with "Food and Trees for Africa" (FTFA) as part of the "Trees for Homes" programme. "We are committed to making Soweto greener. The one meter tall indigenous or fruit trees are sourced from various nurseries in the area which helps support emerging and community businesses. The 100th anniversary of Soweto is a great platform to launch this exciting 702 initiative," said Abramjee.

The "Trees for Homes" programme ensures that the beneficiaries are given the necessary information on planting and care.

FTFA runs workshops with local government, community and other civil society representatives. Talk Radio 702 broadcast the John Robbie show live from Soweto as part of the launch of the Soweto 100 celebrations.
