Limpopo's "hottest frequency" changes lineup
The award-winning station has four new DJs:
- Kay Bapela on First Flight, Monday to Friday midnight to 3am;
- Prudence Mabasa on Capricorn FM Top 30 on Saturdays 9am to noon;
- Lindiwe Makhubele presenting the Jam District on Fridays from 8-10pm and Saturdays from 6-9pm;
- DJ Cappuccino who joins DJ Lacosta on the Mix Down Avenue on Fridays from 10pm to midnight and Saturdays from 9pm to midnight.
There are some change of slots for presenters who have been with the station since inception and some change of names to shows.
Listener's requests
The station is embarking on this process because of feedback received from its listeners and as a response to the market. The changes are hoped to usher in a new phase in the radio station. According to Shonisani Muleya, Capricorn FM programme manager, the line-up changes could not have come at a better time. “The station has been on air for slightly over two years with the majority of the team here from the beginning, so the time to refresh the product is now,” he says.
Commenting on this, the CEO and station manager Simphiwe Mdlalose says that the station is ready to take its product into the next level. “These changes will make the station sound new and as such it will maintain its current listeners whilst attracting new ones,” he concludes.
Recognition, awards
The station continues to broadcast 70% in English and 30% vernacular, incorporating the three dominant ethnic groups in the province. It has been declared the fourth largest independent regional radio station in SA, a diamond arrow award winner in the PMR Awards for two years in running and the breakfast show being regarded as the sixth largest breakfast show in the country according to the latest SAARF reports. The CEO was awarded the Entrepreneur Award of the Year by BBQ Magazine for his work at the station.
The station has also just been named a finalist in two categories in the coming Metropolitan Oliver Empowerment Awards.
