The SABC says in a statement that its management informed the striking workers that their demands and the stated reasons for their strike, ‘…to remove or re-deploy station manager, Gail Samuels…,' are non negotiable and will not be met by management and BEMAWU have agreed that internal processes have to be followed. The statement says that should there be any grievances against the station manager they must be submitted to management to review and BEMAWU will be given feedback within seven working days.

Station manager Gail Samuels stated that she “looks forward to the eight permanent staff members returning to work”. She added: “we have a dynamic brand in Lotus FM with a loyal and supportive listenership. The success of the station is a combination of the commitment of all staff and the support of our audience alike”.

The SABC statement says discussions still remain open as they always have remained and “we encourage all community stakeholders from all organisations to participate in conversations and partnerships with Lotus FM and this should remain on-going. The management of Lotus FM looks forward to such engagements”.
