Lotus FM station manager resigns

SABC management today announced that Lotus FM station manager, Naresh Veeran has resigned from the Kwazulu-Natal based station with immediate effect.

"The SABC takes this opportunity to thank Naresh for his contribution in leading the station, first as a commercial entity and then managing the transition from a commercial station to a public broadcaster from October 2002," says Judi Nwokedi, managing director of public broadcasting services at the SABC.

Veeran has decided to pursue other business interests but has admitted that the pressure over the past few weeks on the station had been instrumental in the re-evaluation of his career options. "My time at the SABC has been a fulfilling experience but I feel that it is now time to move on," says Veeran. "I am only 30 years old and believe that there are many opportunities available to someone with my drive and ambition."

Tansen Nepaul will act as station manager until a permanent appointment has been made. "The SABC is confident that Naresh's departure will not adversely affect performance of the station as Tansen will take up the management of the station in the interim," continues Nwokedi. "We believe that there are adequate management capabilities within the organisation to steer Lotus FM in the right direction during this transition period."

Nepaul, who has been with the SABC for 15 years, has been actively involved in all aspects of radio and has an all-round understanding of what it takes to keep listeners of Lotus FM informed, educated and also entertained. He started his career at the SABC as a production assistant before moving on to become Lotus FM's music specialist. Nepaul is currently Programming Executive at the station, a senior management position he has occupied for the last 2 years. "Tansen's great understanding of the community will assist him immensely in catering for their needs, and balancing those with the station's mandate. As a music specialist, he has a good understanding of the tastes of the local community," concludes Nwokedi.
