School of Broadcasting - A first for the Eastern Cape

Algoa FM has partnered with its weekend lunch presenter, Tové Kane, to open the School of Broadcasting in the Eastern Cape.

This is a first of its kind for the province, according to Kane.
"Some 25 years in the radio industry and related fields have given Tové an edge in understanding the art of communicating," says Algoa FM MD Dave Tiltmann.

"When we realised that Tové had extensive experience as a trainer in addition to her broadcasting skills, we saw it as an opportunity to open a professional broadcasting school in the Eastern Cape," he says.

Tové graduated from Rhodes University in 1992, worked at Talk Radio 702 in 1992 during her undergraduate studies, served as the Breakfast Jock at Smart FM in 1994 and as a sports anchor on Talk Radio 702.

She worked as a presenter on 94.7 Highveld Stereo from 1996 - 2006, and won the Crystal Award for Best Radio DJ, defeating the other nominees for this award, including Alex Jay, Jeremy Mansfield, Gareth Cliff, DJ Fresh.

Her career includes working on Jacaranda FM between 2006 and 2009 and again in 2010, after which she joined Talk Radio 702 to present Solid Gold.

"Today this all-star presenter is presenting Weekend Lunch on Algoa FM from 12-3pm Saturdays and Sundays," says Tiltmann.

"The school is not just aimed at aspirant radio or TV broadcasters, but is ideal for anyone who wants to enhance their vocal ability and open up new opportunities," says Kane.

"It will open windows of opportunity for many people including students/scholars with a dream of being on radio, business people who need to improve their presentation skills and vocal delivery, toastmasters, people in theatre, voice artists, and managers or people aspiring for management positions.

"It will be a highly interactive course. Participants will have loads of fun while learning how to captivate listeners," she says.

Kane will be supported by the professional Algoa FM team to present elements of the course.

It will consist of 10 interactive two-hour sessions hosted in the Algoa FM studios over a period of five weeks.

"We will be restricting the classes to a maximum of 10 students at a time to ensure that we can give everyone personal attention," says Kane.

There will be three course levels - Introduction, Intermediate and Professional.
Initially only the introductory course will be offered.

The first course will be held at The Algoa FM studios in Port Elizabeth and the cost per student is R5,000 excluding VAT.

This school will officially be launched on Wednesday, 5 November at an exclusive presentation by Tové Kane at the Algoa FM head office in Port Elizabeth.

Algoa FM and Tové Kane have decided to give a free course to one of the successful learners from Brandwag High School in Uitenhage (Eastern Cape). Brandwag High recently started their own online streaming radio station at the school to instill confidence in their learners when it comes to communication. The learner will join the first course which is scheduled to start Monday, 10 November.
