Listening to the listeners

Kaya FM has announced a new line-up, which came into effect on 1 May 2006. "With the current movements in the industry, we need to be constantly aware and keep in touch with our mKaya - loyal Kaya FM listeners," says Neil Johnson, station programming manager.

"They are not shy to let us know what their likes and dislikes are - but we are trying not to move our listeners' cheese too much. Radio audiences are renowned for being loyal to their favourite programmes, so we are evolving our programming line up around what our figures and research show. The new line up will be carefully tracked and will continue to evolve to meet listener needs," continues Johnson.

"We have placed special emphasis on the weekend shows with our 'three day weekend' - at Kaya FM, the weekend starts on Fridays with Good Friends and Good Music," says station MD Charlene Deacon. "We have a new 6-6 line up that listeners will find familiar, and we are tightening up on the music play list with a brand new music data base that will make the selection fit the lifestyle of the audience and time of day.

"Our breakfast show - Live and Switched On - with Pat Cash and Ed Jordan is growing in audience size, input and participation. Following the breakfast team is the dynamic partnership of husband and wife team Mio and Queenie from 9am - 12pm each morning. Even after only one week on air, the support of listeners has been very encouraging. We expect big things from the couple.

Highlights of the new line-up include:
  • The Kaya FM first of husband and wife team Mio & Queenie, thought to be the first in SA radio
  • Current Affairs and cross-fire with Colin and Ramotena
  • Buyile moving to the Tonight Show - 'the Minister of Dark'
  • Positive Talk with Rowena Baird (carrying on with Criselda's legacy)
