Xoliswa guides the gigantic MSC Sola to Ngqura

Xoliswa Bekiswa from Zimbane in Mthatha is one of South Africa's few marine pilots.

A Durban's University of Technology graduate, Bekiswa became the fourth black female marine pilot to obtain an open licence in South Africa, which allows her to help navigate vessels of any size and type into South African waters, reports The New Age.

Bekiswa admitted that although it was her day to day job to guide ships, she was a little nervous when guiding MSC Sola, a 364 metres long, 45.6m wide and 15.5m deep vessel, according to The New Age.
