Scopa interrogation over loco contract derails Prasa
The oversight committee quizzed Prasa over the R357-million deal, which was flagged as irregular expenditure by the auditor-general.
The procurement of the locomotives, named the Afro4000, caused a scandal when it was discovered that they were the wrong size for South Africa's rail infrastructure.
Prasa chairman Popo Molefe said issues around the tender were still under investigation by the rail authority.
He said it appeared that currency hedging had been responsible for the increase in the cost of the locomotives.
